About us
Seifu-En was founded in 1954 as a national foundation in Japan.
Our intention is to conserve and spread to people the philosophy of the tea leaf (Sencha) ceremony and manners (Reishiki) school, Kofu Sencha Reishiki.
We are sure that these activities will improve people's sense of appreciation of beautiful things, then will lead to better Japanese culture and even its society.
So, we create opportunities for you all to have experience with the tea leaf ceremony. And we hope that, by learning Kofu's traditional culture, you will enrich your own character.
Our foundation's name Seifu-En is taken from the tea house of the Kofu school.
Although the literal meaning of the characters in Japanese is "pure wind house", it symbolizes not only the literal meaning but also a Zen philosophy "Enko Seijo", the way of life with a pure heart and abandonment of grudges and arrogance.
Pursuing this way of life is the principal philosophy of the Kofu school and Seifu-En foundation.
Our activities
■Conservation of the Kofu Sencha Reishiki School
We improve on the spirit and culture of the Kofu school which has handed down the tea leaf ceremony (Sencha-do), one of Japan's traditional cultures.
■Tea ceremony and tea salon
We create opportunities for the Kofu school to show its traditional ceremony to the public in temples and shrines.
We also organize tea salons so that everyone of every age can participate in our real ceremony and our culture.
■Lessons
Lessons are taken place for the purpose of enriching people's characters with learning logics and technics of the traditional tea leaf ceremony.
■Bringing up teachers of the tea leaf ceremony and manners
By organizing special lessons about Kofu traditional culture, we train leaders who teach the tea leaf ceremony and manners.
